kimana517: (food : cocktails & the ocean)
+ Hola, amigos! I have returned to Florida, for which my skin, sinuses and no-longer-flat hair are very thankful. I also brought 3 12-packs of Cheerwine with me. Happiness.

The rest of our trip was great... )

+ My new phone arrived today! The seller definitely exaggerated about the cosmetic condition (he said 8.5/10, but it's more like 5 or 6/10. It has lots of scratches.), but it seems to be functioning 100% fine. I really like it so far; the pictures it takes are beautiful! The previous owner was from the UK (this phone isn't actually available in the US) and had horrendous taste in music. I know, because he or she forgot to clean off the included memory card. LOL.

+ I realized this morning that I have no plans at all until Europe. How strange! There are no trips to anticipate, no friends coming to visit (that I know of. Feel free to change this, anyone!), nothing. It's a very odd feeling. And we really need to get our butts in gear and finalize an itinerary for Europe, too. I think we will be cutting it down to no more than 3 weeks, and, odd as it may seem, I think England is going to be the first country to get the boot. As much as I want to go there, I want to go to France, Italy and Greece far more.

+ I was really reminded on our trip why I don't miss winter in the north. Everything was BROWN. Brown, brown, brown, everywhere you look, except the sky, which was gray until the day we left. I miss color when I'm up not here. I think people like snow so much because it allows them to be in denial about the brown. I mean, if a place with mountains and lakes is just brown and gray in winter, what hope is there for anywhere else? And then when snow is anywhere near the road, it turns brown too. I like having flowers in December (we had a yellow rose bloom last week!), bright blue skies, and some green leaves on trees. And that's the last I'll say on the subject, because you cold weather-lovers are probably quite tired of hearing me proclaim my love for FL.  ;o)

+ Tax season has begun, so I am husbandless for 10 hours each day. Sad. Well, hopefully that should make me better at staying caught up on my friends page!
kimana517: (travel : backpacking)
+ I am in North Carolina. We decided to leave today so we would have as much time here as we'll spend driving. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've actually been to NC to be in NC, rather than driving through or having a layover in Charlotte. So far, so good. It's cold out though. No snow, which is a definite bummer. I hope it snows for the wedding on Saturday, because that would make for beautiful pictures. Plus, I want to hit Isaac with a few snowballs. Hehe.

The drive up was LONG. We left at 10:30 and got here at a little after 6, but we stopped for lunch and because my stomach is a jerk. All day I've just been feeling like trash, and the best way to make a long drive even worse is to feel like trash. Bleh. Now that we're in colder air, my sinuses are misbehaving too. I really hope I don't spend this whole trip miserable. I want to dance at the wedding reception!  =o)

+ Sickness aside, today started out well. We met up with Sarah & Andrew for a goodbye breakfast. I've really had a blast hanging out with them again. Stupid living all the way across the country. Now I have to miss them again.

+ We did nothing for New Year's Eve. We never really do. We went to Walmart to get some stuff for the trip, and grabbed some Mike's Hard Pomegranate Lemonade, then drank one of those as we did our usual nightly routine of computering and cuddling. We ended up somehow staying up till 2! I don't know how we did that, but we regretted it this morning. Hehe. [livejournal.com profile] lilia2000 always throws a big NYE party, apparently, and I think next year I may try to go up there. I guess it depends on if we have a kid by then or not.

+ Pics from Christmas and our anniversary are here. There are some cute Mandy pics in there. Just so you know.

+ I had completely forgotten about Cheerwine! We went to a grocery store tonight to get some pop and I saw it and was quite thrilled. I'm going to stock up before we go home.

*the next morning*

+ Wow, the view from our window is beautiful. (We got here last night in the dark.) The lake, then the mountains. Although these mountains seem small compared to the Adirondacks and the Rockys. Plus, since there's no snow but we're up north, everything is so BROWN. That's what I remember about winters up north sans snow - although even snow turns brown in populated areas after a while. Bleh. Yeah, I think I'll take FL over NC, at least in the winter.

+ I had also forgotten about how dry my skin gets when it's cold outside and not as humid. It's ridiculous. I would like to take a bath in a vat of lotion. Hehe. And I think my sinuses do better in FL too - that would make sense, since my mom's do, and she has chronic sinusitis - because I've been really dried out since we got up here. I guess there are some perks to humidity. We'll have to see how flat my hair is here. Hehe.

+ I think [livejournal.com profile] craneke  is going to be the only friend I can get together with while I'm here. I'm thrilled to finally see Kelly again, but it really stinks that I don't get to see anyone else. I was really hoping to meet [livejournal.com profile] daughterofziyon and see [livejournal.com profile] completeinhim  again. I knew this would happen when we decided to take our friend's car rather than ours. Now he has the right to drive it wherever he wants, and we're stuck. *sigh*

+ Oh yeah, and how funny is this - the hotel gave Isaac and me two single beds! Ha! So last night we did the whole Lucy & Ricky thing. Although Isaac came over and cuddled a few times through the night. That was nice. Tonight we'll have a different room with one bed. LOL.

+ Sorry if it sounds like I'm complaining a lot. I don't mean to. My stomach feels much better this morning, and it really is pretty here. I guess it's just reaffirming my love for Florida. Hehe.

+ Well, I'm gonna go. We have to pack up to move rooms. Happy weekend!

kimana517: (tv : supernatural : warriors)
+ Today was a long day. I'm glad it's nearly over, and until it is, I'm chillin' on the couch with Isaac and Seth, watching Supernatural season 2, which none of us have seen since it originally aired. Tomorrow should be much better, because it begins with breakfast at IHOP with mi familia, before AAAC head out for 2 weeks in CT (the losers).

+ Speaking of the couch, Isaac and I have changed its name from "The World's Comfiest Couch" to "The Couch of Forgetfulness", because when you sit on it you forget everything you needed to do.

+ I need to get a cute, warm hat for NC. I really want to crochet one, but it's been a while since I crocheted anything, and I've never crocheted in the round. Anyone have tips on how to do that? I've also never used a crochet pattern (I always just winged it making scarves and potholders), so I'm rather intimidated. I found a ton of patterns I like though, and this one is the one I want to start with. I have a nice, soft white yarn to make it with.

+ It has become clear to me that I am an absolute church snob. I am so completely in love with my church that whenever I visit another, I find myself thanking God repeatedly for mine... and criticizing the one I visited. I know that my church isn't perfect, but man, when I'm not there I miss everything from the lack of typos in the bulletin (the main reason I can't quit as secretary - I am the typo and text box defeater!) and PowerPoint (as well as the not-cheesiness of the layout/background) to the on-key, on-rhythm music, and especially Ken's preaching. Out of the 100+ preachers I have heard in my lifetime, I would put him in my top 3. I know preaching preferences are totally subjective, but for me, he's it. I'm so glad we found that church!

+ What is your criteria for buying Christmas gifts for friends? A friend of mine was asking the other day. I always buy gifts for my family, and those are the only people who definitely get anything from me. Apart from that, I usually just get things for people if I see something that I really think they'd like. For example, I sent Charity a gift because when I saw it, it screamed her name. (Actually, it screamed mine first, but it didn't fit me. Hehe.) I hate when people feel like they have to get me something because I got them something. I mean, yes, I adore getting gifts, but not for guilt reasons. So I guess that's my gift philosophy.

+ We ate Wendy's for dinner tonight and it just decimated my stomach. I will remember that next time I get a craving for their chili.

+ Last night I couldn't fall asleep until 2:45am. That's the first time that's happened in a while now, and I forgot how utterly boring it is. Then I woke up at 9:30. Still, despite that I wasn't tired today, and I haven't had any caffeine. Weird.

+ I put some of my Christmas money to good use today to take advantage of NY&CO's storewide (online) half-price sale combined with some coupon codes. I got one of these in gray, one in white, this in green, this, this in purple, and these in black, all for about $60 shipped. I needed some more PJ pants, and I have an obsession with cable knit sweaters, so I'm excited.

+ I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Apart from breakfast, I have absolutely nothing planned. I'd like to go for a long walk or bike ride, clean up the house a bit, and get Isaac a CVS card. That will be a good day.
