+ Today I applied for a job as a server - and not at Steak 'n Shake. I didn't want to go back there anyway, but with gas so expensive it hardly makes sense to spend $5 just to get to work and back. I'm going to apply to 3 restaurants within a mile from my house, and if they don't hire me, there are a few more about 5 miles away. Today was one of the mile ones - Sonny's BBQ. They do decent weekday lunch business, and servers wear jeans, so I'm really hoping they'll hire me.

I don't really want to get a second job, but I decided I do really want to go to El Salvador this December with my church. I know I just went in July, but this December we are going to do Christmas parties at the orphanage, villages and La Esperanza. How could I not want to do that? But obviously we can't afford it, and I feel bad asking for money when I only work part-time. I figured out that if I make what I made working 12 hours at SnS, or even a little less, that will pay for it almost exactly with the time I have left before the trip. It will be sad to go without Isaac, but I can deal.

+ I have not been sleeping well at all lately. The past many nights it has taken me over an hour to fall asleep, and I keep waking up early. I've been totally wiped out during the day. Today when Isaac got home I convinced him to cuddle up with me on the couch and we slept for 2 hours. It was a great day for laying about on the couch, as it was gray and windy and drizzly.

+ I went to the library and picked up Rick Steves' Best of Europe and My Hands Came Away Red, which I'd never heard of, but I saw it and liked the cover, so I got it. I totally judge books by their covers. Hehe. I'm excited about the Rick Steves book because we are still planning on going to Europe next May/June, and I've heard this is a good one for planning. The other one I looked up online after I got home and there's nothing but rave reviews for it, so I'm excited.

+ It's officially autumn now (even though it won't feel like it in FL for another month or so), so I am thrilled to have my beautiful autumn layout again! Yes, it's the one you all hate 'cause the comments run off the page. But it's so pretty. Hehe.

+ I'm so excited about most shows starting this week. I really can't wait for NCIS, The Unit, The Amazing Race, and Survivor. Yeah, I pretty much love CBS shows.

+ Oh! Speaking of TV premieres, gotta go - Heroes is on!

Hope you get the (or a) job. That'd be cool if you could go. How long would you be away from Isaac?

Aw, man, you entirely have my sympathy. I know how you feel. I'm glad you could take a nap and rejuvenate at least a little. I hope you can get over whatever's causing this bump in your sleep.

Me too. It would only be a week trip, as usual. I'm sure it would seem like forever away from him but the trip will go by quickly as always. I'm excited about being part of a smaller team, too.

Do you ever! I must say I'm glad I'm just a bit insomniac-ish rather than puking all night. *hug*

Cool. I hope it works out for you. :)

Oh, it was all day. I only puked once at night. But I'm over that now, thank goodness!

I'm sorry you haven't been sleeping well! I go through phases like that from time to time.

What do you think you'd do if you got a second job?

I do too, but usually they don't last this long. =o/

Oh, I'm going to try to be a server again. Usually the hours are more flexible than any other job, and the money's quite good. Of course, you also have to deal with customers, but oh well. ;o)

Good ol' Rick Steves!

Remember my friend and coworker from this year, Teri? She told me that when her family came to Europe this summer for her Dutch wedding, they were traveling around in Switzerland and thought they saw Rick Steves... in person. They saw him again in the same town and went up and asked if it truly was him, and it WAS! Rick still travels to those same places every year and updates his writings. That's why his books are so great.

That's so cool! I don't even know what he looks like, but I've heard lots of good things about his books. I plan to also check out a few Lonely Planet guides. =o)

Rick Steves is terrific! I personally used Lonely Planet for my recent trip, but my parents use Rick Steves and have gotten me hooked on his blog: http://www.ricksteves.com/blog/

If you go to Berlin or Munich, I have many suggestions! :)

I plan to read both, and then whichever one I prefer will come with me on the trip.

We're not going to Germany (at least not this trip =o) ). But if I go someday I'll keep your offer in mind! =oD

Yeah, their food is pretty good. I hope they hire me, but I didn't get to interview when I turned in my application, and I think that will work against me. Ah, well. There are several other places to apply to.

I hadn't been sleeping well til recently, and then I started taking a magnesium supplement called Calm that has really helped. An 8-12 week supply is like $30, but you could probably find it online somewhere for cheaper.

Magnesium, huh? I'll have to look into that. Thanks!

One of the things it does is help you relax...

Hmm. Maybe it won't work, then, 'cause I'm already a pretty relaxed person. I'm not stressed right now either. Hmm.

well, there are several things it helps you do. It hasn't helped me in that area, but that is one thing it can do. :)
