Airplane eightball yin-yang glasses. Mailbox! Open mailbox!*

+ Work today was semi-exciting, because I sort of redid the bulletin. It didn't turn out quite as well as I'd hoped, because the copier made it look funny, but it's still better than the old one.

+ I had a blast with [livejournal.com profile] hominygrits on Wednesday! I basically met an entire side of her extended family (a set of grandparents and a few aunts and cousins, plus her parents and brother), and had a great time doing so. They are all a lot of fun and welcomed me right into their family vacation. Most of them were either currently or originally from Boston, too, so all the New England accents made me feel like I was with my in-laws. So great. I was a bit worried about meeting Emily since I don't know her as well as most of the LJ friends I've met in person, but there was still no conversation lag or anything. We just had fun. AND I found a sand dollar! Intact! I never have before. So that was a little extra bonus.

+ I have officially decided that Bones is the most disgusting show on television. CSI may have pushed the boundaries for showing gross things on TV, but Bones has taken it to a whole new level. I should've counted how many times they've shown bowels that are, uh, disemboweled. Nasty. But, I do love the show. Very much.

+ So I knew [livejournal.com profile] melyndie was cool, but I didn't know how cool. Then I found out she's a big Gilmore Girls fan. And then I found out she's a Logan girl all the way! We both see WAY too much angst and emo-ness in Jess and Dean. I think she's the only other Logan fan I know, unless some of you are hiding in the closet of Logan-love.

+ Isaac and I have mostly given up eating out until Seth gets home from WOLBI, 'cause we know that with him back home just for a few weeks, and with Melody coming to visit, we're going to be eating out extra. (We've gotta take them to Dave & Buster's, The Landing, Wasabi...) The only way we're allowed to eat out before they're here is if someone else goes too. Then we can use the excuse of fellowshipping. Hehe. Anyway, last night I made up a recipe for baked chicken that turned out really good, and paired it with some potato wedges that were amazing. I will definitely be making those again. We're really going to try to curb our eating out anyway, 'cause then we can save more money for Europe (and termites and the roof and - well, you know the list by now). We'll see how long it lasts though. Hehe.

+ Speaking of Pippy - er, Seth - he graduates a week from tomorrow! Anyone else think this year has gone by at warp speed? Yeah. If not, you do realize it's officially August now, right?

+ My icon makes me want to watch Newsies. Well, actually, I've been wanting to watch it again for quite a while. Who's up for a Newsies party at my house?

+ Last night neither Isaac nor I could fall asleep. That's really unusual; usually he's out 5 minutes after he gets in bed, and I'm usually up for quite a while wishing I was like him. After doing the usual thing married people do when they can't fall asleep (watch TV, duh. Get your mind out of the gutter. Okay, actually, leave it there... but we watched TV too. ;o) ), we talked about a lot of stuff. We were coming up with retorts for when rude strangers comment about our (future) kids, with varying skin colors, belonging to us whiteys. That was fun. Yesterday I searched for adoption stuff on CafePress, and found this awesome shirt for kids that says, "Don't tell my parents, but they don't look anything like me." LOL! I'm so going to buy that for our kids. I also really liked the one that said, "Superman was adopted." Hehe.

+ Oh yes, and six of you think I smell like pickles. I'm not really sure how to take that. I was not surprised at those of you who chose that option (I'm looking at you, pair of curly-haired sisters), though I was surprised that only six were unable to resist temptation. ;o) Oh yes, and the clear winner for Mandy pictures was this one. It had 23 votes. The next closest had only 5! I think I might enter two though, so now I can't decide whether the second should be this one or this one. (The picture(s) I submit is not the actual one that will be used on the calendar. They will take pro photos for that.) I like the one y'all chose because it shows her prettiness, but one of the other two shows her cuteness. And yes, I do love my dog a bit too much. Hehe. Any thoughts on which of those two photos I should use?

*My subject line references this hilarious video. Watch it if you haven't yet.

Yes, you smell like pickles. If you didn't want my honest opinion you should not have asked. ;)

Awww! I'm glad Seth graduated!!! YAY! What an accomplishment!!!

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I didn't say I didn't want your opinion. ;o)

Yeah, I'm proud of him. He's had a great year there... he's an even cooler person now than he was before. =o)

[identity profile] lupinskitten.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't a big fan of any of Rory's boyfriends. Dean was all right for awhile, but he turned out to be a skeeze. Jess had issues. And Logan annoys me because he's an irresponsible jerk some of the time. But at least he finally got a job and decided to make something of himself, so I'll give him that much. And maybe I'll like him more my second time through the series. =P

I'm up for a Newsies viewing at your house -- but alas, I ran out of Floo Powder and haven't Apparated since the time I left my left arm behind. =P

Awww, yeah, Superman WAS adopted. Which makes adoption totally cool. =)

PS: Is Bones really that nasty? I have kind of forgotten, since I don't watch it much on the off-season. But I do remember going, "Ewww" once or twice while eating pasta. Not that it stopped me from watching television while I eat. ;)

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Logan has his moments of stupidity, but all in all he has less of them than the other two.

You and your constant running out of floo powder. *sigh* Next time they have a sale on it, stock up, wouldja?

Definitely!

Ohhhh yes. The "human soup" in the bathtub, the disemboweled bowels (twice on the one where Bones's dad kills the deputy director of the FBI), the rotting corpses with maggots and/or worms all over them, the close-ups on Cam slicing into a liver... yeah. All these things are unnecessary. One I watched tonight zoomed in on Cam slicing into some organ while Hodgins was talking. A normal TV show would zoom in on Hodgins when Hodgins is talking. I mean, while rewatching Dr. Quinn, I understood that she was doing surgery and that it was gross, despite the camera not showing anything but blood on her hands and apron. It's amazing how much more gruesome TV has gotten since the '90s.

[identity profile] lupinskitten.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry. I do buy it in bulk, but the Weasleys are always asking to borrow some...

Ewwwww. I'm glad I don't remember any of that. And yes, television has gotten way more disgusting and controversial since the 90's. Supernatural last season was really gross. CSI is exceptionally gruesome. My mom even complained that there's more blood spatter in L&O than there used to be. I hope it doesn't continue to get even worse, because there comes a point when it's too much. =P

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Supernatural is always gross, but I swear it's not half as bad as Bones. That show is just ridiculous - like it's their goal to make everyone puke as well as enjoy the show. Even CSI is not that bad, and that's saying a lot.

One thing I appreciated about the first season of Criminal Minds, and which they have since deviated from a bit, is that they never showed anything. They would tell you, say, the body is decapitated or it fell 10 stories, but you wouldn't see it. You would see the team's reactions, but not the gore itself. It was effective, in that I understood what happened and that it was gross, but not gore for gore's sake. I really like that about that show.

[identity profile] lupinskitten.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I laughed when I got your comment, because I was LITERALLY talking about Bones with my mom. She had just said that it was the grossest show on television, and then asked me when the new season started up. Hahaha.

The Closer tries not to be too gruesome either. I appreciate that. I'm not a big fan of blood and guts on TV. =P

[identity profile] modmerseygirl.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I like Logan, although I really like Jess, too. I liked Dean, at the beginning, but then he started annoying me. I love Jared, though. ;-)

I'm totally up for a Newsies party! I'll be right over. :-)

Oh, both of those photos of Mandy are so cute! I like the second one best. :-)

I'm so glad that you've been able to meet more LJ friends!

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I love Jared, but Dean only had a season or two of my liking him. I'm glad I knew him as Sam Winchester before I knew him as Dean. (Though that did get confusing there for a while, when there was Sam-Dean and Dean. Hehe.)

Oh, I wish you were telling the truth! Although, I will be in your area Friday night. Problem is, I won't have my own car this time, and I have no clue what my schedule will be. Hehe. As far as you know right now, are you free Friday night? Don't say no to an opportunity on my behalf, if one comes up, but just right now are you free? I'll just have to call you when I know what our plan is.

Thanks for voting! =o)

Me too! I wish I could meet a new friend every day... or just have one come live next door!

[identity profile] asoulinbliss.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm up for a newsies party at your house!

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, come on over, then! =o)

[identity profile] mrs617.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
I want Newsies!!!!!

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I know that, but do you want to watch the movie? ;o)

(Sorry, I couldn't resist, as half my friends at college would fight over Jack and Spot. Hehe.)

[identity profile] bluiidmommy.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The one nice thing about it being August is that my birthday's next month! Yeah, I'll be 28 (28! When did that happen?), but it's still a birthday. :D

I read a quote somewhere that said the worst part about adopted kids is training them to look like you, hehe.

Oh, and if you send in another picture, I would definitely go with the second one. The first one's too cluttered (to me).

Oh my gosh, I loved that video!

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
28 sounds good to me. Isaac will be 28 in October, so you're just a bit older than he is. (Never mind how I always tell him he's old... ;o) )

LOL! I like that. You can teach 'em manners, sure, but the looks thing will be difficult. Although, I'm sure our kids will be so beautiful I won't want them to look like us. =o)

Thanks!

Isn't it hilarious? Oh, it made me laugh so hard.

[identity profile] bluiidmommy.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it doesn't sound too old to me. I try not to think about how close 30 is. *shudders*

I loved the wingdings guy! Some of the things people come up with... :D

[identity profile] dramaticsuzy.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You should definitely watch Newsies and I will come too! My friend, Chris, came over to watch a movie a couple of weeks ago and all my roomie and I had were Jane Austen-esque things and other girly movies. The most manly movie we had was Newsies, so he picked that out... and loved it.

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Newsies is one of those few musicals that even normal guys can profess to like without being embarrassed. Isaac and my brother Seth and most of my guy friends in college love it!

[identity profile] princessmia241.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the second one best, though the first one is adorable.

Baked chicken: how did you make it? Me and mom make a recipe we call baked chicken, just put various spices on it and pop it in the oven. It turns out great.

I've never even seen Newsies. ;)

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I baked with orange juice, honey, and red pepper. And something else that I've forgotten. Hehe. The OJ and honey kept it really moist, and gave it a great sweet flavor.

You need to! Maybe we'll have a Newsies viewing party when my sis-in-law is here (a week from today!), and you guys can come. What time does your evening church get out? And do you have church on Wednesdays?

Oh yes, and I suppose before you watch it, you should know that it's a musical. If you don't like musicals, you may not like it, although I have known others who only like Newsies. =o)

[identity profile] princessmia241.livejournal.com 2008-08-09 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
OJ and honey? That's interesting, I've never heard of that.

Yeah, we have church on Wednesday, and Sunday night gets out at 7:30, or thereabouts. I'd love to come if you decide to have it. :)
lol Just by looking at the icon you can tell it's most likely a musical. :P

[identity profile] daughterofziyon.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Those adoption shirts are great!!!! haha!

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely!

[identity profile] borboletalanna.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I looooooooooooooooove pickles, so it's not such a bad thing. Hahaha... I should have known Katharine would pick that too.

GG watching hasn't happened for a couple months (I think I stopped at season 4 or maybe 5). I hadn't got to Logan, but I don't like either Jess or Dean, so maybe I will be a Logan fan...

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. I love dill pickles, so I will assume you think I smell like dills. ;o) And yes, of course you and Katharine both chose that! =o)

I hope you are! He has issues, as they all do, but is for some reason less annoying to me, by far.

My car smells like pickles, and I love my car. What's so bad about that? :)

[identity profile] istra-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-04 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never seen Newsies... *flinches as everyone screams, "You HAVEN'T??!!!"*
...So you should wait until I get over there so I can see it too ^_^

[identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com 2008-08-04 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen it either!!

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Sad! You should rent it. Cute boys, good story, great music and dancing... what's not to like?

[identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I want to see it!

Re: My car smells like pickles, and I love my car. What's so bad about that? :)

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
How did you go through a whole year at WOLBI without watching Newsies at least twice? Wow. Well, we can remedy that when you get here (one week!!!). =o)

[identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com 2008-08-04 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck with the not going out to eat. :) I can send you some recipes if you need inspiration!

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we've made it a week. We did go out with my Dad after church, but we always go out to eat after church, so we didn't want to get rid of that. Especially since, by going with Dad, we didn't break the rule. But since then we haven't been out to eat at all. Woo-hoo!

But I never object to recipes. Especially if they taste really good and are healthy, 'cause Isaac never believes healthy stuff can be tasty until I make him something that proves it.

[identity profile] chestnutcurls.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Good job! :)

I recommend the [livejournal.com profile] bonsvivants and [livejournal.com profile] ideas_for_home communities - there are lots of good recipes there.

Re: Pickles: AHAHA! Great minds think alike. Although I don't know whether it's complimentary that you expected such a response from us.

Also, I feel compelled to point out that I DID clarify my response.

Ryan makes potato wedges all the time and they are delish. He puts curry powder on them so sometimes they're a little spicy.

[identity profile] kimana83.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. Good point. But I expect silliness from you guys, because you both crack me up quite regularly, so that's why I expected it.

Hehe. True.

We put chili powder on them last time - it was so good! I like playing with the different spices.

[identity profile] hominygrits.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad to know that you had a blast! So did I! I admit that I was a little nervous about asking you to meet! But I am glad that we did - one of those once in a lifetime things that you need to take advantage of while you can! I hope that we can get to know each other more through LJ, facebook and the like as time goes on, because you are fabulous! :-)
